SMOKEOUT HELPS YOU QUIT SMOKING

Cancer Society raises awareness of how bad smoking is for you

Smokeout helps you quit smoking or at least, that’s what the American Cancer Society hopes to accomplish.

The issue of smoking and the constant fight against is no news. Smokers are everywhere and even though all sorts of organizations and even the state tries to discourage smoking, it’s not that simple for smokers to just quit.

On November 19 took place the Great American Smokeout. In other words, it was a day for people to quit smoking. But, as mentioned above, smokers don’t find this very easy and definitely need more than a day to do it.

The event was aimed mostly to students, as the American Cancer Society has partnered up with the University of Cincinnati. This event is part of the Lung Cancer Awareness month and donations were made in exchange for hot dogs. The money raised from donations went to cancer patients as well as to transportation programs for people who need to come here and get treated.

Lung cancer, although highly dangerous, is just one of the problems caused by smoking. There are also many other ‘small’ issues that may occur which you may not connect to tobacco but which are inextricably linked. Among them can be poor vision, coughing, anxiety, bad teeth, wrinkly skin, erectile dysfunction, infertility and many others. Although people are trying to raise awareness that smoking is indeed bad for you, the ones who smoke either have a lot of trouble quitting or they simply won’t do it.

So, if the fact that smoking is bad for your health in general is not reason enough to quit smoking, maybe we should come up with other ideas to discourage this damaging habit. One idea is to increase the price of tobacco.

According to research it seems that this should be one of the most efficient ways of preventing people from buying. Despite the fact that there will still be smokers who will afford paying for their vice, it will hopefully limit young people’s access to it. Therefore, it is expected that in the future, this young people are less likely to become addicted.

In Pennsylvania there is a plan of a legislation that will increase the price by $1.60 which will help, as predicted by researchers, approximately 90,000 young people from ever smoking, about 100,000 adults to quit and it could also prevent the premature deaths of half of them.

So, whether it’s by increasing tobacco prices or by raising awareness of its negative influence, society should keep up with the fight against smoking.
